Surveys and Mapping

Good management needs accurate data and, as woodlands grow, data needs to be constantly revised. We carry out all types of surveys to update crop maps, correct boundary changes, measure windblown areas and make assessments of survival and general condition of woodlands.

Accurate maps are an essential component of a forestry plan. From basic ground surveys and aerial photographs we can revise existing forest maps or produce new maps of woodland areas. Our work is accurate and efficient and covers all forestry requirements.

We are fully equipped for and have developed expertise in digital mapping which gives us the ability to quickly, and cost effectively, revise maps as woodlands  change and also to prepare clear maps for specific needs such as public consultations. We can also easily transpose data from aerial photographs and other sources to update digital maps.

We also carry out inventories of growing trees to gather data on stocking, basal area, mean volume, top height, yield class, stem quality and general health of the forest.

We also carry out tree surveys to BS 5837:2005. See our Tree Surveys page
